I'm no expert on this but I can tell you from my experience that if you go in to get rid of the sludge, make sure you do a thorough job. I recently had to rebuild the tranny in mine from major damage and while it was broke apart saw 50 years of sludge in the rearend. scraped a bunch out and kept going on the tranny. After puttin her back together, adding new oil, and running her through the gears, the world was good again....until. After using the 3 point again, which was great before the tranny rebuild, it starting giving me problems.
I think when you stir the soup without a good strainer, the noodles start getting all over the place and sometimes where you don't want them. Now I'm making time to clean it good and replace the erl AGAIN. :cry:
