I spec Berrymans is water based and my cause more harm than good. My fear would B it may erode/rust the cylinder walls. It would not b the same as submerging a carb in the cleaner. Their are products available made just to clean carbon deposits inside the valve/cylinder of a engine. Careful what you pour into a cylinder cuzz some of it will find its way into the crank case. I spec carb dip and engine bearings are not compatible. GM makes a good top engine cleaner, Chrysler does also. I have used Techron made by Chevron (fuel injector cleaner) with good results. I would think that Throttle body cleaner sold in the aerosol cans would do a good job. Either way B careful that you do not add enuff to contaminate the engine oil. I would plan on a oil change soon after applying a solvent. I wish it were that EZ to add a chemical to clean carbon off the piston/rings cuzz it sure is a job to cleaning them even out of the engine with a stiff wire brush or ring grove cleaner. A few times I have seen were the carbon was doing a good job of sealing the worn out oil rings, flush it away and then no oil control.
