It needs to be as smooth as a baby's... well, you get the idea. Most of the time they do not need to be resurfaced, but if the circular area where the clutch rides has extensive rust (pitting), I would spend the $20 and get it resurfaced. As a bonus, most places will balance it at the same time wich gives you the added bonus of a smoother running (less vibration) engine and increased rear oil seal logetivity (fewer leaks). Dan
