Battery Size

I need a battery for my '49 8N front mount.
I looked it up in the archives and found I need a group 35 battery.
I looked up the size of a group 35 battery and it is about 2 inches taller than the battery I have now. And I'm not sure that would fit
I measured my battery. 9L x 6.625w x 6h +post height.
A group 35 battery is taller than this.

My question is will it fit.

Is it normal for a battery to just die all at once.
Tractor ran fine last time I mowed with it.
Let it sit in the yard for a couple of weeks.
I keep it tarped down and covered good.
Went out to mow and when I pushed the starter button all I got was a click. I tried to put a charger on the battery but it wouldn't take a charge. Disconnected the battery and it still wouldn't take a charge. I'll be taking it in for a free test but I am certain it is bad. Never had one go bad all at once like that. Usually they give me trouble for a while till I get tired of it and replace it. I didn't leave no switches on or nothing. I keep the key in the house and the headlights don't work. So there is nothing to drain the battery when it just sits like that.
It is a 12v negative ground system.
Just curious as to what ya'll got to say about it.
