Bill - To me the difference between a scraper blade and a box blade are these: - A box blade has side plates that contain the material you are moving - The cutting edge of a box blade has a flat bottom on it to prevent digging too deep (like a sand wedge) - Box blades often have rippers to loosen the groud you are working. These feature make a box blade operate more like a wood working plane compared to a scraper blade that is more like a wood scraper or a scoop that is more like a chisel. HTH
