Jim, Let me first tell you that I'm a newbie, so take what I say accordingly. With that said, however, I had the same question and was told that the light switch bracket was used on the earlier 8N and that a hole drilled into the instrument pannel was used on the later 8N. A major parts distributor/maunfacturer sells the bracket and specifies its use for years "1948 - 50." Also, if you take a look at the Ford parts catalog, you will see dimple or hole-like mark on the instrument pannel - left lower side.
