I'm not sure if the 8N pump is the same as in my 2N but when I put mine back together, I found I had to file a few thousandths off the cast iron piece that comes off the transmission where the pump slides past it on either side. It was as if the gap between the two pump chambers was just the slightest bit narrower than the part they had to surround. I attribute that to using new pump chamber gaskets that must have been a little thinner. When I filed it down, I put a bit of a bevel on the edge too, then the pump slid right into place.
