You dont have to put that ball in the socket untill the pump is in place ( you have the top off and side plates off so you can see what your doing right ? ) I did mine last year only needed help to line up top going back on to ball and socket, you have to hold things just right up and down back and forth the pump assy should fall into place with no problem, I used a hydrolic jack to hold the not so heavy pump in place while I moved it around to fit.
