Yes, that bouncing around could have jarred something loose. I think that is what happened with the forklift. Worked just fine when I bought it, I had it hauled 100 miles to home, then it did not work. I figure the incline loading and road bumps caused the coupling to work its way to one end, like I said it is too short to start with. If you take the pump off the shaft should turn with the engine. The other end has splines on the flywheel. I suppose they could go bad, but that should make some grinding noise.
