There has been many tractor transmissons ruined by not using an over ride clutch. You can get by not using one, but for what they sell for it would be foolish to not use one. I have seen the results of tractors getting pushed into the fence or buildings when the operator wanted to stop and didn't have the over-ride clutch, the tractor keep going till the rotary cutter stopped spinning.
