If you have a Mustang it is a model 23. The electrical system was positive ground originally, but may have been changed sometime since new. If you have a battery, check to see which cable is grounded,or check bottom of regulator for positive or negative markings. The generator will have to be polarized. If the ground is wrong, the ammeter will show discharge.A 6 volt tractor coil is probably OK. If you go to a Auto parts store ask for an internally resisted coil. Hope this helps.
