I recently broke a lower link mount pin on my MF40 loader - approx 1965 model (looks to be an industrial version) with crank-driven hydraulic pump and very strong loader, also has power steering from its own pump. Unusually also has PTO and 3PL. Bought this machine 2yrs ago and reconditioned 3cyl Perkins - since then been really good. We have my late father's MF 35 & 135 from when I was a boy( we were dairy farmers) and use the 135 frequently on our small residential acreage. In my 45 years of experience they have been fantastic tractors and the loader is just as amazing. I have been a mechanic since completing school.
Mount pin broke whilst carrying heavy slasher for ballast while loading trucks with road base for several hours. Cause: - No swaybars (no forward mounts fitted), allowing excessive side movement of slasher - my fault, front edge of slasher caught rear tyre, thus causing damage. I removed the trumpet housing and remains of the pin to get a new one. I also need to repair oil-soaked RH brake (same side luckily) and a couple of related seals. I cannot find a replacement pin anywhere! Does anyone know what othrt models use the same ones? Rear end appears very similar to MF65 with heavy cast iron wheel centres, hub reduction final drives and inboard dics brakes. Front axle, wheels & tyres uprated and radiator cowling is cast to support loader frame which reaches to rear axle (as it should). Engine and gearbox looks like 35X onwards to 135, 148 etc, 3cyl Perkins is indirect injection, goes really well and I enjoy driving them both. I will restore my father's 35 4cyl diesel when time allows. I shall post some pics when I can work out how.
