Delphi has both 1/4 and 5/16 inch rubber line sleeves with the same OD, but for 2 line sizes. 1/4 is used on most 4 cyl Perkins engines while 5/16 is usually on 6 cyl pumps and filter bases. Brass sleeves were used before the rubber ones were, but tend to be harder to seal. Rubber does not need to be as tight to seal, and helps prevent line cracking. They can be hard to remove after they are in place though, and need a pick to break them out for line removal. I would use what you have that fits, brass may be worth a try if it can be made to seal.
