It was the coupling as you said it would probably be. The cotter pin was in pieces and I was lucky enough to get all the pieces laying in the bottom of the trans. I had to drill the cotter pin hole out to a larger size. The hole was so egg shaped that nothing was going to stay in there for long flopping around. I ended up putting in a socket head hard bolt with a nylock nut in the coupling. It clears everything when turning, so that"s what is staying in there. I am working on the power steering now. The seal at the bottom of the steering tube is leaking and the fluid is coming out under the steering wheel. This will be the third time in the last ten yrs. Last time I put a speedi sleeve on the steering shaft but even that didn"t last as long as I thought is should have. I am taking a look at the relief valve in the PS pump to see if that is hanging up and putting to much pressure on the system when the wheels are turned all the way to the side. I have 5 or 6 different men driving this tractor and it"s difficult to keep up with the problems as no one tells me what is wrong until it"s too late.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
