Hi Jamie, As has been said the compression can be checked using the starter motor and suitable adaptors and gauge. However at this time there seems little doubt that surgery is required. We can all speculate on what it MIGHT be and be none the wiser. For me the only thing to do is to remove the cylinder head and examine the pistons etc. Be prepared then to remove the sump (oil pan) to remove the pistons. I think that the answer will be fairly clear by the time you've done that. DavidP
