the 4640 is a "large frame" tractor, the 4440 is a "small frame". the 4640 has 1000 rpm pto, the 4440 is interchangeable 540/1000. you can usually get a 4640 (around n. iowa) for slightly more than a 44, because the 44's sre more popular and a bit handier around the yard. i have a 4450, and wish i had bought a 4650, instead. the little amount of money difference would have been well worth the added hp. sit in the cab of 4440, 4640, 4840, look down the hood, and you'll see the difference. i definately do not like the 8 speed powershift of the 30 & 40 series- too rough and not enough gear selections. my opinion.
