...to eliminate the oil cooler as a cause, you can jump across the cooler lines with a piece of heater hose...leave the cooler tubes open and look for oil leaking out with the engine running....My guess is that it isn't the cooler but that the cylinder liners are porous and allowing the mix...it can go both ways...oil into water or water into oil or both depending on exactly where at the base of the liner it is porous...when you have the head off, look for grayish looking lines on the cam side of the liners...they are usually more noticeable when the water is transfering to the oil but they may be there...In older construction equipment with that and similar engines it is a routine problem and can be attributable to cheap anti freeze...
