While the stub shaft was loose it was working on the shift pin for the speed shift collar, bending the pin a bit,, you can buy some time by removing the stub shaft and sticking a penny on the stub (with sticky grease) and reinstall the stub, what this does is pushes the shift shaft forward a bit more to engage the shift collar,, but you will need to split it soon to replace the shift pin,, I make a way of locking it into 540 position for good and forget about that darn pin...
