Everything I"ve ever read is that series 800 or 801 3 point hitches are not recommended for letter series John Deere tractors due to potential instability of the front end of the tractor. The book on operation, care and repair by John Deere does not have any pictures of letter series tractors with an 800 series hitch; Yakima type hitch only. However the 1955 27th edition features number series JD"s with the 800 3 point hitch. My JD 70 had a crank adjust handle at the top on the right side lift link, which was thought to be an 800 hitch, the 801 had a different adjust method for the links.
