On some tractors of that vintage (but moreso on the 520 etc) there were not just one (to Dist) wire on the coils + lead to distributor, but two. The extra was to a MAG or GRND on the IGN switch on tractors that used a 6 volt coil and had the ballast by pass when starting system. That was so if the IGN was OFF the coil still didn't fire if the engine was cranked over, it was a safety feature. There were also two wires on the coils - input, one to IGN on IGN switch and the other to the starter switch which fed full battery voltage (unballasted) ONLY when cranking
