It don't make any difference if you skip gears or not I have had a powershift since 1964 and you can skip as many gear as you want. The only gear you don't want to skip is 6th if you are going to 7th It takes a lot of power to ingage all of the clutches for 7th If you have the rpm up you can skip 6th and go to 7th. I most always depress the inching pedal part way when skipping gears to cushion the shift. Back when we plowed the i din't use the inching pedal to shift but with light loads its smother. The 1st power shift tractor we have had since 1964 has over 20,000 hours on the transmission and was a loader tractor used to push silage in a bunker silo for 20 + years and it has never been apart.
