DRL, I haven't had much experience with this problem but I noticed something on the model "D" that I am starting to re-assemble. With the tractor up on blocks and no weight on the front axle whatsoever, and with the drag link disconnected from the steering shaft, the steering components swing freely for about 20 degrees to the left and right of centre but suddenly get noticably stiffer past ~20 degrees - with zero weight on the axle! I suspect that 20+ year-old grease, dirt, and rust have bound up the pins and bushings. I would try jacking up your tractor and see if there is any noticable change in the tightness when turning the wheel from lock to lock. Then grease all of the joints with the weight still off the front end. If it steers easily under no load and becomes tight under heavy side loads caused by turning under high power, I wonder if something is dry and binding. You could disconnect each joint in succession to see if one of them really changes the "feel" of the steering gear. Does it bind up equally when turning both directions? Sorry for the long post - but a couple of things to try! Jon
