The oil is coming out of the "oil slinger" seal. Behind the crankshaft housing is a metal oil slinger which has an internal seal and between the oil slinger and main bearing is a thrust washer which is made out of some laminate type material which has a tab at the top. The flywheel has a dowel type pin that mates with the oil slinger slot. Gaskets for the housing and oil slinger are fairly cheap but the thrust washer is about $55. John Deere should be able to get all the parts you need. I just replaced one on my 630 JD. My flywheel was stuck to the crankshaft and I had to make a two bolt flywheel puller using flat 1/2 steel drilled out to fit 5/8 in bolts and a 1 in socket to fit against the crankshaft. You will have to remove the large adjusting nut on the outside of the flywheel. You will have to check your specks for the JD 50 for end play. I also replaced the flywheel bolts with fine thread grade eight bolts I got from Fastener"s...believe they were 3/4 x 4/1/2. Torque for flywheel bolts are 275-280 ft/lbs on 630 but believe they are around 150-175 for 50. Not a hard job but it takes time and you have to be sure you get the end play correct and bolts torqued properly or you will regret it.
