Hi Just a thought I wonder if the guys have set the travel of the solenoid engage arm on the drive too short, and it hammers the drive against the back of the starter nose and breaks it off as the soleniod pulls it to far in. Some starters have adjustment for it. I have seen a few different ones do this in my time. my book doesn't show much on JD starters though. So might be a bit of a guess on this one. Regards Robert
