I agree with Larry that is the best way to re-new the engine, till then clean the holes out and press a lead plug into the hole to keep it from slobbering down the side till you can schedule an O/H, and No it won"t hurt anything, the newer blocks don"t have the holes which were just a visual warning of upper o-ring failure, just check your oil regularly,the lower ring could hold the water back for a couple more years or a couple more days,,Darn it
