Ok, now I am really stumped. Got the carb off per the advice of you fine folks. Made some adjustments, and got it back on. It took a while, but it started- and ran GREAT! I let it idle for about 10 minutes and shut it off. I called a friend over to hear it run- it wouldn"t start. It took 30 minutes to finally get it cranked again, and then it died and would not restart. At first, when it first started, the smoke was black. It did not contune smoling. Subsequent attempts showed white smoke- which I thought indicated it was too lean.
At any rate I don"t know why it is so hard to get started. I welcome any advice. I have checked, replaced, and checked the plugs again. The magneto is sparking - you can see it at night.
