The legislators in the UK , maybe the rest of Europe weren't happy with the transmission locking style parking brakes , not because of any problems with efficiency , but they wanted an emergency brake . Its not something you would want to do too many times in the Mannheim style utilities , as the handbrake is wrapped around the diff housing , and isn't designed for repeated use on a moving tractor . However it can be applied if need be in an emergency situation , unlike the transmission locking type . When the 6000 series came out in Europe in '92, the transmission lock was a revelation , as people like me who grew up with 30/40/50 series were amazed at the ability to hold a heavily laden tractor on the steepest of slopes , safely .

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
