I have restored a JD Model 70 LP. Runs great and everything works. Took off the back wheels to have them sandblasted before I paint (not easy I might add). One of the rims is beyond repair. The tire size is 14.9 by 38. When looking for a replacement rim I realized they come in different widths. The best I can tell is the bead width on my rims is around 11". I found some used rims where the bead width is around 9" which I would assume changes the profile of the tire. Need some advice on whether to find a rim that matches the rim that is still good and if that is even correct size for the model 70.
Secondly, the pinon gears that move the rim need replaced. The JD dealer has new ones for $104 each. I"m thinking that might be a bargain considering how difficult the are to get off (WD-40, heat and a lot of pounding). I don"t think I would go through that much trouble for $104.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I"m almost there restoring this basket case.
