Ron, it could any number of things & is probably a combination of parts.
~The most logical place is the adjusting bolt "T" ends worn at the pivots, & the pivot pins worn in the pulley bosses, & pivots themselves worn at the pin hole area or adjusting bolt contact area.
~If you add all the parts prices up you will probably get sticker shock.
~DON'T buy any parts until you pull it apart for a look at the parts & wear areas.
~In most cases you can just drill out the pulley pin bosses & pivots & install larger pivot pins then grind off some of the extra adjusting bolt length & the cover will then fit just fine.
~If the clutch is operating good now & snaps in & out good just shorten the adjusting bolts enough for the cover to fit [there should be a second set of cotter pin holes to lock the adjusting nuts] if there isn't you will need to drill some.
~If you have the late 720 make sure the clutch fork stops are set correctly so the fork doesn't overtravel & allow the adjusting bolts to extend too far.
~Are you using the correct cover? Some of those aftermarket covers don't clear the bolts very good...
