Kevin: I used to operate a 12A John Deere combine with an engine on it. The engine was a crank type and was hard to start because the cranking mechanism was not the best. This small combine would cut a lot of acres if one wished to push it. It was actually a straight thru machine and would cut and thresh a lot of junk. Many other kinds of machines could not process weedy and trashy crops. It would not take a very large tractor to pull it on on hard ground. However if it is soft or muddy it will give an "A" a good load if one wants to operate it at 3 or 4 miles per hour. Had an 1948 12A and it operated well behind a 1951 "A". The "A" would pull it right along in any kind of soil. It is still on the farm. We have sold the motor. Contact me if you need some parts.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
