Trying to save a few bucks on Hy-Gard is the equivalent of "penny wise, pound foolish". Had a friend who was upset with the price of Deere's Hy-Gard, so he went to Wal-Mart and bought whatever generic brand of hydraulic fluid they had. Put it in his 1020 tractor. Shortly thereafter, he lost the steering, then the brakes, etc. Turns out that the generic stuff ate the paint off the inside of the main case, and plugged EVERYTHING. Cost him a LOT more than the small amount of money he saved buying the cheaper stuff. If you don't like the Deere price, fine, but buy brand-name oil that you trust, not the generic stuff, because you'll end up spending a LOT more than you'll save.
