Unless Deere has recently change the design, it takes a special tool to install the seal.A dealer will be the only one that has the tool.Maybe you could borrow one.I have always used a chisel and hammer to lightly stretch the wear ring and then used a crows foot to pry it off.Tap the chisel in several places around the diameter of the crank.Be sure to not damage the crankshaft. Its very easy to do.Deere says it is very important to leave the new wear ring inside the seal when installing it.The seal and the wear ring are pressed onto the crankshaft together as a unit with the special tool.I,too, would replace the seal while the tractor is split if it hasn't been replaced for a while. If the ring doesn't have any sealant on the inside,I would give it a VERY light coat of Permatex.
