I saw the Vulcan Plow display today in the Basemen of the old Courthouse building in downtown Evansville today. It consits of the actual statue of the mythical character of Vulcan, the symbol of the company, that used to reside atop their building in downtown Evansville. Behind the statue in the courthouse is a horsedrawn Vulcan plow, with some information about the company, including a very interesting story about how the Vulcan Plow company had a deal with Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson to supply plows for their joint Fordson hitch design. I believe that the information in the display indicated that the corporate reminents of the Vulcan Plow Company went out of business in the early 1950s.
