I have rebuilt a 963, 953,and 952. The original wheels for the 953 and 952 hubs are very rare and I couldn't find any when I wanted to replace the old ones on my 953. The inside of the original wheels are slightly convex while the "newer" wheels, the ones common today, are slightly concave with a "well" where the hub fits on the inside. The inside well on the newer wheels is slightly smaller than the 953 hub which results in the wheel not fitting tightly onto the hub. I resolved that by using newer wheels with a 1/4" steel wheel spacer on each hub. I had the wheel spacers custom made by a local CNC operation but found out later that those spacers are commercially available through the company that I buy my agricultural tires from. The cost is about the same - around $25 each. The spacer brought the wheel 1/4" away from the hub which allowed me to use the newer wheel and have it fit tightly to the hub. You can use the newer wheels without a wheel spacer but to fit tightly to the hub you will need to turn the wheels around as the outerside of the newer wheels have a slightly convex shape to them. That puts the valve stem on the inside of the wheel. A little cumbersome if you need to add air. If you go with new wheels - $60 or so each - you can have any size 6-bolt wheel you want.

Today's Featured Article - Fire in the Field A hay fire is no laughing matter-well, maybe one was! And a good life-lesson, too. Following World War II many farm boys returned home both older and wiser. One such man was my employer the summer I was sixteen. He was a farmer by birth and a farmer by choice, and like many returning soldiers, he was our silent hero: without medals or decorations, but with a certain ability to survive. It was on his farm that I learned to use the combination hand clutch and brake on a John D ... [Read Article]
