Craig,I also farm "old and obsolete".My equipment is all from the 50s/60s ....I've worked on that "junk" my entire career.,Some times you just have to realize(and admit) the old machine just isnt worth fixing anymore.I have fixed more stuff that should have been junked,it cost lots more time/money than practicle,plus it always breaks in the most critical time(old balers are notorious for that).I had a 282 that had the same prob;lem as yours.After tearing it apart,I realized it was to used up to fix.Later I dismantled it to salvage good parts.EVERY bearing was bad,lots more stuff was worn out.Later pd 1200 for a super nice 283.that just WORKED.Good luck on the repair.
