I managed to change the belt tonight, but I think I took it apart a little farther than I should have. I got the spacer out under the pivot mount under it, and took out the bolt holding it to the sickle. I then ended up having to remove the 2 bearing caps on the sides to get enough movement to get the belt underneath it.
The belt on it seemed too short, and snapped when I was trying to get it over the pulley. I found a worn belt from our Gehl 72 green chopper was only about an inch or so longer, and fit very nicely. I still want to replace it with a new one, but if this gets me by it may stay on for a while. We've got one more even older belt off the same model green chopper in the shop from the last time Dad changed them probably 20 years ago. Good thing we never throw some stuff away....
