I got the pulley needed to drive the sickle today, and in the process of trying to get the belt on over the pulley it snapped. I took a quick look in the shop, and found a worn belt off our Gehl 72 green chopper was just a hair longer and fit perfectly. I got it put on and out to the field I went.
I made one pass down, and turned around to pick up the outside row that was run down some when I opened it up with the Fox. I was almost done with that pass when the corn head plugged up, and I figure that's when the chain broke. I thought it was because of the downed corn, but I was wrong. When I got back in the standing corn it plugged up again, so when I looked a little more I saw the chain was dangling. Thankfully it didn't get fed into the chopper....
I looked at farmchains.com but they didn't list exactly what I needed. They do have that size however, (CA620) so I'm sure they can help me. Too bad the Fox uses a different size or I could have robbed a chain off that head and kept going. Overall, happy with the performance so far. Just the chains are stiff. This one must have been 1/2 broke already, as only one side of the rivet was shiney. Other side was rusty.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
