I do some horrid terrain along my road and water ditches and have never bent a hitch up - can't you just use a thinner hitch pin? Lot of 7/16 or 1/2 inch bolts get used around here for smaller loads like that, allow a lot of flex on the hitch? The 2pt multi-holed bars some use are terrible for a hitch, use the tractor's drawbar or get a proper hitch that sticks out a bit, not that bar with a bunch of holes in it - those bust up hitches all the time, you can't turn short. Only hitch I ever broke was going over a drop-off on my bridge with a manure preader with a hitch pin the same size as the holes. A sloppy pin should let things work out on light loads like a rake?
Many mo-cos or haybines use that style of hitch you talk about, you'd maybe find a model that has a bolt-on setup and find at a salvage yard if you want to go that route.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
