I built one out of a two stage Hyster forklift mast. The inner stage is the pounder and has pounded everything I have put under it. I would guess the biggest post was a 12-13 incher. I used a 4 ft stroke cylinder and drilled holes in the cylinder's piston so now the effective area is the rod. Since the rod is now the "piston" it does move the inner mast up and down with rapidity. To tip forward and back, it I use a hyd top link. To plumb it from side to side, I made it pivot. I'll post some photos when I get a chance. It ain't pretty but it works darned good.
