Your mower was built with 3/8" thick blades, but they could have been replaced with 1/2" thick blades at some point, so the first thing you need to do is measure your blades because the hardware is different for each. Here are your part numbers:

For 3/8" Blades:
GY2250W Blade Bolt $36.82 each
11M7040 Cotter Pin $.47 each
12H234 Washer $1.03 each
14H920 Nut $2.47 Each

For 1/2" Blades:
W12064 Blade Bolt $38.37 each
W10327 Lock Nut $13.38 each

The above prices are current John Deere list, and you will need two of each for each blade.

Another tidbit of info: These mowers don"t have actual serial numbers. The 003 is actually a "series" number. All the mowers in that series will have 003 on their tags. The other series is 004. The 003"s were built with 3/8" blades and the 004"s were built with 1/2" blades. I was a John Deere parts manager for 18 years, so I have been through this a few times. If you want to send me your e-mail address, I will send you a PDF of the parts catalog for your mower. That should help you with your dealer when you need parts. Many of the part numbers have been subbed to new numbers, but they should be able to tell you that when they check price and availability. The above numbers I gave you are the latest subs.

Today's Featured Article - Fire in the Field A hay fire is no laughing matter-well, maybe one was! And a good life-lesson, too. Following World War II many farm boys returned home both older and wiser. One such man was my employer the summer I was sixteen. He was a farmer by birth and a farmer by choice, and like many returning soldiers, he was our silent hero: without medals or decorations, but with a certain ability to survive. It was on his farm that I learned to use the combination hand clutch and brake on a John D ... [Read Article]
