Having put several thousand bales through aMF 12,I have learned that you must keep the knotter assembly extremely clean. Have you considered mounting a 12 volt rough duty fan to keep the chaff and fines out of this area? Have recently moved up to a MF 124, which is a newer version of the 12 and tends to make a tighter more uniform bale. Usually one can find the newer machine for prices comparable to what you paid for the 12. Good luck with your machine.
