I have chopped 100's of acres with a 3940 and a 4020.We do have the fuel turned up some but that 3950 pulls easier than any other harvester built by anyone.Keep your knives sharp and shearbar adjusted and you will be fine.Today's forage is cut much longer than years ago,nobody uses a screen anymore,we run our 3940 on the course side of the big sprocket and my nutrionist still complains it is to fine.In heavy hay one 12ft swath maybe enough but in later cuttings of alfalfa you will be able to put two together.We now chop with a 4520 as we bought the bigger tractor for tillage.Once in heavy 9ft swaths we used the 3020 because the 4020 was broke down,it was slow but we got that cutting done.The 3940-3950 harvesters were one of the best ever built by anyone the only improvement would be to put a New Holland 824 cornhead on it instead of the Deere head and several farmers in my area have done that.If you have a big tractor the NH 230-240 harvesters are better but for 130 hp or less the 3940-3950 is great.
