On a x5 series JohnDeere...Front of cylinder open 5/8-3/4".Rear of cylinder open 1 1/4 or wide open.Approx 450 in dry corn; up to 600/650 in wet corn.Sieve open 1/3 to 1/2.If cobs are 1/4ed,open cylinder a little.If grain is ground/cracked slow down cylinder.If corn is left on cob,close or de crease speed on cylinder a little.You're going to have to 'play'with it.Glad to help,but you really need to get a book.To much info is needed to just 'wing it'I've owned combines since '80.Still refer to my books on a regular basis.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
