Bolens hydro help needed

I have a Bolens QT-16 model 1666 16 hp tractor with hydro problems. It has trouble going forward. It makes whining sounds but little power and reverse seems mostly ok. It may have been abused, my neighbor returned it with the front axle broken! Anybody have a manual or repair instructions? Any idea what may be wrong? Where can I get parts, it must be 20 yrs old. I think it was made by Ford, very heavy cast iron. At least it uses ford ATF. I'm going to change the oil to see if it helps.
