I just wandered across this old thread and thought I'd throw in my $.02 just in case you're still considering your options, I had the same problem with an HH120 in a Bolens 1257, those units are getting rare+expensive and it's a complete crapshoot whether even an NOS unit is going to be any good :( I built a crank-trigger ignition that's working *great*, and I did it for less than $50 :) The ~edstoller site has good info, combined with the info on the site I'm attaching it was pretty straightforward to combine a Chevy crank-sensor+a GM HEI module+a Ford Duraspark coil for a cheap, repairable, and durable ignition :)
