Trust me on this one boys. I believe I know what the problem is. I have dealt with an identical problem twice now on my four-year old Craftsman. Look for a small relay attached to the ignition wires hanging near the steering column just on the inside of the dash. This relay is about a two inch cubicle shape. You can replace it with one from Sears or go to your local automotive store and buy one. They were a common item on some early model GM cars. This relay operates somewhat like a three-way switch in your house. Like I said, I have replaced mine twice now in four years. Each time I had left my mower out in the weather for a couple of days at a time. Evidently this is a weakness in the ignition system. A relay from your local automotive store is exactly the same thing as the one that comes on these tractors and is a heck of lot cheaper than ordering from Sears.
