I started with a 30" 8 hp JD in 1978 mowing my 2 acres plus. Kept thinking bigger is better. Finally went to a 3cyl diesel with pto driven 3 blade 48" turf mower. Problem was that with mower in the rear, turning had to be very careful as the radius of the mower would sideswipe seemingly everything. Head was to the rear all the time and the exhaust was in your face or sticking up in the tree limbs.

Wanted some landscaping so decided to downsize. Started with a Scotts briggs 21 hp 48 3 blade. Noisy as heck, took more than 2.5 gal of gas and had to watch scalping all the time. Kept having engine fuel problems so gave it back to Home Depot for a Scotts Kohler 15 42 2 blade. Much better, quieter, more manueverable and did the yard on 1.4 gal of gas.

Decided to retire the Scotts to cutting the dam around the pond (as I was afraid of old iron tipping over) and bought a new mower for the lawn.

Since I have a live fence plus numerous shrubs, turning radius, efficiency, quality construction and cutting hygiene were all important factors.

I am completely satisfied with the JD L110 automatic 17.5 Kohler 42 2blade. It is all the things I wanted plus very fast, very husky, yet nimble enough for my wife to feel comfortable using it.

Personal opinion after shopping for this more than for anything I can recall including vehicles.

This is a lot of mower for the money and I think for the cub cadet, it is overpriced.

Mark

Today's Featured Article - Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects. ... [Read Article]
