Dan first thing is first.take into consideration the condition of the rest of the mower if you have any recent repairs to the rest of the tractor (like recent deck work, hydro work etc.) and if the rest is still in very good shape than i say go with a rebuild or a cheaper engine swap my expierience is sometimes it is better fixing what you have if the new mower payment doesnt sound good. Bottom line there are several ways to look at it good points and bad points cub 782 still have a good resale value in good running working cond. and if you have a soft spot for older cubs red and white then you own a piece of history,my two cents worth sorry to ramble on.
