Murray2, it's kinda like anything that has been used, make sure everything works. I realize that sounds like a smartaxx, but seriously, make sure the engine runs OK, oil consumption should be obvious by tell-tale smoke, and let it run until it is warmed up well. Check the mower deck underneath, (but NOT while it is running!) for rust, etc. Activate the mower unit, this should cause the governor to open. It should open and run smoothly. Listen for harsh sounds from the bearings on the mower deck, this would indicate wear.Check the blades for wear or bent. A bent blade indicates it has hit something solid and could have damaged something else. Look closely at all belts, and check for cracks. This mower could still be in good shape, but is old enough to have problems, depending on the amount of use it has seen. And, good luck.
