You say the 800 and 900s had the same engines. No they did not - at least not all. I have two 800s here and worked on many at our Bolens dealership. All that I ever saw had S7D engines. All the 900s that I witnessed had S8D engines. I still have several S7D engines I removed from 800s years back since they were so underpowered. We put a lot of Tecumseh or Briggs 12-14 horse engines in as replacements.
Obviously I have not seen every one ever produced and there may be exceptions -but certainly not all 800s shared engines with all 900s.
